Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
And the dreams that you dream of, once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dream of, dreams really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to
Why, oh why can't I?

Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
And the dream that you dare to
Why, oh why can't I?

This is obviously not written by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole as its older than he was. What I learned is that this song was written by Russian Jewish Immigrants (like my grandparents) and is a song about Jewish survival from the pogroms (before the Holocaust in the endles march of persecution against the Jews throughout history). This is important to correct here. The lyrics are by Yip Harburg. According to Wikipedia, he "championed racial and gender equality and union politics. He also was an ardent critic of religion." My kind of guy.
