When we first met, my friends bet me
They wouldn't let me off the hook
Their warning to me --don't touch, just look

When we first met, my friends let me
though knew you were baiting the hook
Yes they warned me --don't touch, just look

When you first came into view, my friends
knew --you were too hot to handle
Though to me you seemed a candle without a flame
Still, the embers remained --too hot to touch

The first time we kissed, thought my friends
would then pull me away
Knew what they'd say before the book was 
opened wide, don't touch, just look --then run and hide

So where are my friends when I need them most
My heart, toast, love roasted on an open flame
Hear them cry out again --don't touch, just look
Then walk away before your goose gets cooked

When you first came into view, my friends knew

Yes, much as I hate to admit, my friends were right
Another lonely night, with you no longer in sight
