We Were Riding High

We were on a Colorado high! The top was down and the wind was in our hair. The sun was on our faces. There was joy and giggles. We felt like We could live forever. 
But then I found myself alone on long country road. The wind and the dust were blowing. No where to go. Lost and in her rear view mirror. 
I discovered it mattered not how I felt, what I said and what I did. But my stubborn self still told her anyway. Nobody will love her more than I. 
But that panicked look on her face was revealing. She ran to the beach. Left her babies and me behind. 
She’s gone. Seeking her perfect life without complications. No man in sight. No romance anywhere. She’s hoping the beach will give her peace when all she had to do was seek joy and ecstasy with someone who hopelessly loves her. 
Her senior years may be lonely and sad. Maybe some day she will decide to find love again. I just hope I’m still around to love her like she deserves. 
I was riding high with her, but no more. God help her! God help me!
