I know I promised you that we were worth more than the miles combined
But that was way before we said some things that made me realise
That maybe we were just two lovers, way ahead of both our times
I couldn't see your exit through the tears that filled my eyes
& I went straight to my grandmothers and she asked me what was up
I told her "I just broke the only heart I've truly ever loved"
And now I'm terrified of stormy nights, cause I see you when it floods
And I can't face my problems so I'm living on the run

And oh I love Vermont
But it's the season of the sticks and I
Thank your mum for everything she ever did
And no it's not your fault
Oh how I wish It could be different
If I return your calls
Or put my keys in the ignition
Then we'll
Be right back
Where we were in June
But the summers past
Like the seasons do
We weren't built to last
We were meant to lose
And I'm split in half
But that'll have to do.

So I thought that if I piled something right on all my wrongs
That I could cancel out the heartache I inherited from mum
I'm no longer happy, cause I miss you now you're gone
I still can’t face my problems so im living on the run and ohh I

And oh I love Vermont
But it's the season of the sticks and I
Thank your mum for everything she ever did
And no it's not your fault
Oh how I wish It could be different
If I return your calls
Or put my keys in the ignition
Then we'll
Be right back
Where we were in June
But the summers past
Like the seasons do
We weren't built to last
We were meant to lose
And I'm split in half
But that'll have to do.

Oh that'll have to do
My other half was you
I guess what they say is true
What you love you lose

And oh I love Vermont
But it's the season of the sticks and I
Thank your mum for everything she ever did
And no it's not your fault
Oh how I wish It could be different
If I return your calls
Or put my keys in the ignition
Then we'll
Be right back
Where we were in June
But the summers past
Like the seasons do
We weren't built to last
We were meant to lose
And I'm split in half
But that'll have to do.
