Late 80’s-early 90s rock americana song in minor key, a long string of streetwise images and characters, I have all the lyrics transcribed but not the artist/composer. Male singer, with a pretty simple chord pattern using acoustic guitar and rock rhythm section. Opening stanza:

There’s something in the air on this October night
I’m half drunk and weary with no end in sight
When you’re running on empty, you can lose your appetite
But you can get it right back if you can hold down that first bite

The phrase “I could use a little something to keep me goin’” recurs as a tag at the end of most verses… might be the title, but I can’t find with search for that. more »
