Layla, you've got me on

Check out "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille." Maybe that is what you're trying to remember.

I heard this song when a friend sang it to me. He said he heard it from family, possibly his grandfather, who homesteaded in New Mexico in the 1920s. The song is about a man who buys a car, and wrecks it because it was the kind you had to turn a handle in front to start it, and then get behind the wheel to drive. The lyrics I know are these:

he wouldn't wait till I got in,

Now all's I own's a pile of tin,

And every month I walk right up and pay.
Up and pay, up and pay.
So much down and so much every day.

She wouldn't wait till I got in,

Now all's I own's a pile of tin,

And every month I walk right up and pay.

Thank you for any help you can give me.
